Acerbic - Her Words or Mine ?
We all agree that there has been a time when we all; atleast once have faced that discontentment of a 'friend' who is well, 'friendly'.
Not when you were new at school, or when you were disliked by everyone. What I speak about; is that time, when your best friend was changing or that's what you felt like.
And because your views did not match with hers/his like they always did; you started having quarrels or tempered debates. And that is when it all starts getting - ACERBIC.
She said something, and you replied back. She made up a face and and muttered something else, when you got vexed and fastened back at her about what she had said. A harsh word here and a strident one there. And at the end, you both with your books clutched in your hands, one as fiery as fire and the other almost in tears turn around and stomp away.
Sounds familiar ? To those for whom it doesn't you might think upon this as a comical scene; a fight between two 'besties' but this isn't so.
To those who have gone through this have always known what lies ahead. Depressed times . . .
The heart always says it will be alright. But the mind has different plans. It's like the demon and angel in you fighting, just like you had.
"We were never so ! She's changing or maybe I am. She's wrong or maybe I am. She's ill-tempered or maybe I am . . ." All these run through our minds when we're all drowned, and we never get their answers . . now . . or . . then !
Things seem to be getting worse, even if they aren't. Her words swivel in your mind, and her face makes you more depressed. So much goes round your mind that you never feel alright, you never feel it's going to be like always again. You start over thinking and there is something that doesn't seem right.
At this point of time . . . you always stay back. . never reach out to her. It has always been so, I don't know why . . but it has..
You seem to be stuck in your own thought and get it hard to come up again, and then she comes; your friend back again with the ends of her lips upturned. Her eyes as watery as yours, as if she has gone through all that you have been till now. But the difference between you and her is that she comes and trying her best to smile says a, "Sorry !"
There's silence as you stare her turn around and walk away. That's when you feel a little fire-cracker in you wanting to burst out.
And then, pops up a question in your head, "Acerbic, the words surely were. But hers or mine ?"
For her it's always hers and for you it's always yours !
